I haven't updated in four months? You'd think I've had nothing to talk about, but actually my world has got flip turned upside down. In a very good way. Internet took a backseat.

Some stuff I'm doing right now/have done lately:

-Listening to a lot of podcasts, it's my new obsession. League of Extremely Ordinary Gentleman and WTF with Marc Maron are both pretty awesome.
-Planning my Halloween costume. I'm thinking that old Goth chick classic, Morticia Addams, should do nicely.
-Working my ass off while the pickins' are good.
-Finally realizing why people are so crazy about this relationship crap. Going steady now with the dude I mentioned in my April 21st entry and the world has not caved in yet. It's kinda fun, in fact.
-Rediscovering Austin, Texas beyond those boring childhood visits to the Capital building. I had my first 6th Street experience a few weekends ago. Didn't get a tattoo. Plan on visiting the Alamo Drafthouse next time I go.
-I've become an obsessed fan of Phở. Whenever I visit a new city I Google search for any Vietnamese restaurants.

You know how sometimes, life is both wonderful and terrifying? I mean, it's like that for the most part anyway - but my awareness of it lately has never been keener. I feel like all is right with the world, and yet it's so precarious I could lose it all in a second... part of me is waiting for the cave in.

I watched The Princess and the Frog.

Ya’ll know ya wanna hear my opinion on it. Ya’ll totally do.

Verdict: It’s not the best Disney film ever (no surprise) but it isn’t bad, in fact it’s quite enjoyable. Worth the price of admission at least.

Points of Interest -

• Most of the songs were really good. I’m still humming “Friends On The Other Side” to myself.
• A few songs could have been completely left out and no one would have missed them. All they did was slow the movie down.
• I wish we could have seen more of Dr. Facilier/The Shadow Man, or had his personal story expanded on. He was the most interesting character IMO.
• The Zen-like message (“Let go of what you want, so you can have what you need”) surprised me.
• Those beignets with coffee looked effing delicious, not even lying to ya.

• This movie has no balls when it comes to race. Granted this is a kids’ movie and we’re talking Disney here, I would neither expect nor want them to go grimdark and hyper-real. But a few references to racial strife in 1930’s New Orleans other than one or two indirect visual cues (and one surprisingly brave throw-away line, you'll know it when you hear it) would have made the film more believable to me, and maybe even added some emotional impact.
• I was not offended by any glossy racial stereotypes in this movie, but I’m an apathetic white girl so take that as you will.
